To the Farmer's Market we go......Part 1

Image
I had a really fantastic and hectic weekend what with my cousin getting married and all and me and my guy dancing the night away til my feet was swollen but nevertheless I was able to make it to the next adventure. The Farmer's Market and Food Fair Competition at the Queen's Park Savannah on Father's Day.

As usual I never know a lot about the events but once my sis and brother in law say 'Come and Go with us on...whatever day...I am game!" Its only when I arrive do I know about these adventures.
Even though we travelled in separate cars, we travelled liked a caravan and arrived at the same time and parked close to each other...excited to get going on the adventure.

The day started out very sunny and promising but we all came prepared with umbrellas and coats just in case it turned rainy and rainy it became.

The first section we visited was the Farmer's Market and we were anxious to get our citrus fruits before everyone else as they are scarce and very expens…

The Garden Adventure

Image
Hi there welcome back.

So we're ready for the garden adventure at Mariposa and might I say what a wonderful experience it was. First there was a feeding station up on the verandah for the hummingbirds to come by and interact with guests.

It was simply fascinating to see these little birds flitting around really quickly. Lots of people were just taking pics of these jewelled fliers.

Next we walked outside through the garden where the owners of Mariposa labelled a lot of the trees and plants to inform visitors. The one you will see below is lavender.

While walking through one of the paths we noticed an amphitheatre. There they hold small concerts at different times of the year. Last year they told us they had parang songs performed there.

These are other pics we took within the garden.

Hope you enjoyed the visit at Mariposa and I trust you will make it one of your stops when you visit Trinidad in the future.

If you enjoyed this adventure, then 'come stay with us'.

Old world items

Hi there welcome back to my adventure at Mariposa Cafe and Garden.

Remember I talked about some items they had on display at the restaurant? Well today, I will show you the pics and I want to see how many of them you can remember or name.

Some of the items were so heavy we wondered how the people of yesteryear lifted them up and used them so effortlessly. Here are the pics

Hope you enjoy the step back into yesteryear and will visit the Mariposa Cafe when you visit our lovely island and if you like our adventures why don't you 'Come stay with us!'

Mariposa Cafe and Garden Brunch and Nature Walk

Hi there and welcome back

As promised I have more adventures for you this time in Trinidad. The Mariposa Cafe and Garden is located in Lopinot, Arouca and is owned by the Guerrero family. The cafe was opened in 2001 and serves a spanish creole cuisine to its visitors.

My sister and husband told me they were going to an event there and wondered if I would be interested. Of course being an adventurer I said 'Yes'. My niece and another sister also went along to the event as it was the Indian Arrival Holiday here in Trinidad and they were looking for something to do.

The day was very hot, lots of blue sky and the road to Lopinot very winding at some parts barely 2 cars can pass but we didnt mind too much as my brother in law is a very careful driver.

We arrived there and was amazed at the number of cars there as we thought we were very early after all we arrived at 11 am and the event started at 9. When we arrived we were escorted to a receiving area where we obtained an empty bo…

An adventure at The West Indies Beer Co Grenada

Image
Wow I think Grenada just got even better with the West Indies Beer Co. at Lance Aux Epines Grenada.

Hi there welcome back to our adventures in Grenada. If you are looking for something exciting to do in Grenada...this is one for the beer drinkers.

Its been there a while but my boyfriend and I finally decided to give it a try and we really enjoyed it. And, I think it was the beer I sampled that also made me forget that I was flying home the next day, however its a good thing I decided to check my plane reservations that same night albeit at 10pm.

So thankfully I did not miss my flight...

Now back to the beer company....now you would be surprised to know that beer is not to my taste but adventure is my middle name so I tried one of the beers called 'black rock' with 8.3 % alcohol and it had a punch.... Its a good thing it was just a sample...whooooo... Even my dearbf who has had several strong beers while living many years in England thought ....whooo....that's a beer.

Through the Belvedere Estate- Grenada

Image
I was saddened to leave the beautiful concord falls but we were taking a drive through the countryside of Grenada and it was already late afternoon.

The drive back out was filled with talk of the amazing beauty and sheer wonder of the Falls. How powerful it sounded and how pristine it was. We continued along the road towards Gouyave, a fishing village on the western side of the island- looking at the villagers from the community sitting at the side of the road, enjoying their sunday afternoon sunshine, some were in the park watching a local football match, some were bathing in the sea. There were mothers, aunts and sisters combing the hair of young ones , family members even neighbours/ friends.

We decided to go through the interior of the island for a change, taking the road to Clozier, through the Belvedere Estate. Belvedere estate (from my reading),was an old sugarcane, nutmeg and banana plantation and there, Julien F├ędon settled with his wife and led a revolt against the Briti…
